Survey Time!

Media Center teachers! Please remember to set aside some class time (15 - 20) minutes for students to complete an opinion survey by June 10. There are links at each student computer in the Media Center.

Please also take a few minutes to complete this survey for teachers. There is also a link on the right-hand column of this blog. Again, by June 10, please.

Not the survey we plan to give, of course. Amusing, though! (via Found Magazine)

An Activity and A Song: The Freedom Riders and Katy Perry

It's been 50 years since the Freedom Rides, and American Experience on PBS has great resources to accompany their documentary on the subject (which is airing this month). There's a new activity that asks students to read a bit about the rides via an interactive feature on the website, and then listen for some vocabulary as they watch the trailer for the documentary.

The song takes a hit our students have already heard (many, many times!) and asks them to focus on verbs and their forms. There are some less frequently used verbs in this list, so it's a good vocabulary builder.

On This Date at The New York Times

Here's a cool feature from The New York Times that allows you to look up historical events that happened on a given date. The navigation is easy. For example, I just learned that on May 18:

How would you use this tool in class? Share any ideas you have - that's what the comments section is for!
