A Musical Timeline of New York City

Eight weeks, eight songs. The activity board outside the Media Center is revamped for the summer term, and the focus is a musical timeline of New York City. Starting with a George Gershwin standard performed by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, and ending with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys and their anthem to New York City, we've covered a lot of bases. The activity for each song has a language-focused component and some suggestions for learning more about the featured artist or genre. The worksheets are on the Media Center board, in the binder near the teacher computers, and on the Media Center wiki.

Encourage your students to check these songs out in their spare time, or perhaps do them in class. Also, if you have ideas for field trips or class projects inspired by these eight songs, let us know!
