What's Going On In Your Classes?

Rebecca B. shared this video of her student Tim performing a Jason Mraz song in class as part of his midterm presentation. We shared it on Facebook, and there was a lot of audience interaction. Thanks to Tim and Rebecca!

We'd love to showcase more of this sort of thing on our social media sites, because it really drives student (and potential student) interest in our school. If you have pictures or video of interesting things happening in class, please share!

Visual Thesaurus

Visual Thesaurus is an interactive visually-based dictionary and thesaurus. The site is subscription-based, but you can start with a free 14-day trial. A sample entry is below; notice all the ways you could interact with the entry to get more information about the word.

If you don't want to subscribe to the service, there are a number of contributing columnists who write about various elements of language - and you can read these columns without subscription. Two standouts for me are Word Routes by Ben Zimmer (which looks at how words and phrases have made their way into English), and Evasive Maneuvers by Mark Peters (which looks at euphemisms). Check it out and let me know what your favorite column is!
