Beasts of the Southern Wild

Here is another Oscars-themed activity to do with students. In this activity, students can read about the movie Beasts of the Southern Wild (from the Wikipedia article), and learn about the particular geography of Louisiana in the process. Then, students can watch a clip from the NBC show Rock Center; Ann Curry interviews Quvenzhane Wallace and Dwight Henry about the making of the film. It's particularly charming because Wallace is the youngest person to be nominated for Best Actress in the history of the Academy Awards, and because both of the lead actors are amateurs.
